Original Watercolor "Pelicans in a Row" Matted & Framed 17.5" x 20" Ready to Hang

Pelicans are a large and stocky seabird with a long neck and giant bill. Breeding adults have a dark neck and a pale yellow head. Birds from the Atlantic Coast (like these) have brown skin on their throat pouch. I'm lucky to be able to watch brown pelicans at a nearby marina. Seems no two look alike, they are social and are always with others. This rendition was photographed just moments before they saw me and took off in flight. Love the way this came out. The colors are true. 

I used 300lb hot press Arches watercolor paper, winsor & newton paints with touches of ink to define the painting.  I tend to use more of a dry brush technique which translates into a more illustrative style with I believe lends itself to being a truer representation of the subjects.

This original watercolor painting is beautifully framed with complementary white matte and gorgeous wood frame.

The painting is "floated" on top of matte to showcase the torn edges of the watercolor paper.  Makes a very interesting and unique visual presentation.
