Loggerhead turtles are named for their large heads that support powerful jaw muscles, allowing them to crush hard-shelled prey like clams and sea urchins. They also have four large and powerful flippers used to swim through oceans and are very plentiful on Hilton Head Island, SC. If you are lucky enough to see the hundreds of loggerheads who annually come to our beaches to lay eggs it is incredible. While loggerheads are a yellow/red/brown in color, I chose to paint this with a more appealing blueish tone to showcase a more pleasant/playful turtle. This angle is fascinating to me as it showcases the flipper, shell and head in swimming motion. The complex shapes and angles are plentiful! This was my first attempt to paint a turtle and it required many layers to accomplish a true finished product. Fascinating fact: Sea turtles are the living representation of a group of reptiles that has existed on Earth and travelled out seas for the last 100 million years!
This painting is beautifully matted and framed and measures 11" x 13" and is ready to hang! SOLD MATTED AND FRAMED
